About

An engineer trained in Europe, certified and practising in Japan for over 13 years.

Profile

Two engineering cultures, one set of standards

I am an electromechanical and electronics engineer based in Japan, where I have worked for over 13 years as a field engineer, technical manager and project manager. My own practice covers technical representation for foreign companies, quality control and sourcing, electrical installation, and the maintenance of thermal and air-treatment equipment.

What clients usually value most is not one specific skill but the combination: an engineer who holds the Japanese qualifications required to sign off the work, understands how European and Japanese technical practice differ, and can explain both to either side without an interpreter.

I work with Japanese industrial sites, with foreign manufacturers who need a technical presence in Japan, and with private clients who would rather deal with someone who speaks their language.

Experience

Over 13 years on Japanese sites

Field engineer, technical manager (技術マネージャー) and project manager for a Japanese industrial engineering company: site inspection, installation, commissioning and maintenance, but also planning, technical supervision of on-site teams and reporting to the client.

Sites handled include pharmaceutical plants, hospitals, amusement and leisure facilities, automated warehouses and machine manufacturers — environments where safety documentation is audited and where an unplanned shutdown is measured in money per hour.

That experience is the reason the four service areas on this site sit together: on a real site, a supplier question, an electrical issue and a cooling issue are rarely separate problems — and they are rarely solved by someone who has to phone another country to understand them.
